Overview
Publication Resources Offered to Promote Emerging Leaders (PROPEL) grants are designed to support writing efforts that result from a San Diego CFAR (SD CFAR) Developmental Award. The goal is to assist researchers during key phases of scholarly output—whether preparing abstracts, manuscripts, or new grant proposals. Funding may be used for:
- Peer-reviewed journal submission or publication fees
- Statistical or research-related software
- Short-term personnel to provide administrative or research support (excluding postdoctoral fellows)
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis until annual funding allocation is exhausted. The funding period is one year from the award date.
Eligibility
- Be a recipient of a current or prior SD CFAR Developmental Award
- Be working on a publication or proposal that directly stems from that award
Requirements
- Funding must be directly tied to work resulting from a specific Developmental Award
- You must demonstrate a current need for funding related to writing, submission, or proposal development
- Provide justification for why discretionary or institutional funds are not available for these expenses
Restrictions
- Each San Diego CFAR Developmental Award is eligible for up to $5,000 in direct costs through the PROPEL program. Funds may be requested in a single application or divided across multiple submissions based on need.
- Funding may support publication fees, research-related software, or temporary personnel to assist with writing.
- Travel support is limited to presenting results at a scientific meeting and must be used by the Developmental grant PI.
- Awards may only be issued to recipients based in the United States.
- PROPEL funds may not be used to purchase computers, provide salary support for postdoctoral fellows, cover general research costs unrelated to writing, submission, or dissemination
